Saturday, I took a road trip to Iowa and met up with some long time friends. After that, I stopped by the relatively new Brownells retail store in Grinnell. Meanwhile, my car got some nice January thaw/rainy winter road build up. I also encountered very thick (read: dangerous) fog leaving and returning to MN.

All total, I drove around 500 mi this weekend.

So did you pick anything up at Brownell’s, or just checking it out?

Seeing a store for firearms that large is kind of confusing to me as a Canadian.

There are a decent amount of places like that in the US.

I was in Tulsa for training and 10/12 people in the class were from outside of the US. I was explaining to them how easy it was to get a gun here. I even brought the Australian to Bass Pro Shops to show him some American culture.

Wasn’t that fog just ridiculous? I couldn’t hardly see anything last night.

CB, I did not purchase anything from the store. However, I have purchased items from Brownells in the past.

Brownells is generally internet or mail order parts/supplies/etc. and having an actual retail store is new territory for the company. The grand opening was 2016.

To add:

I just want to note that any person wishing to legally purchase or sell a firearm in the U.S. is subject to and must qualify under Federal law. On top of that, each State may have their own specific purchasing/selling regulations in addition to Federal regulation and this varies greatly by State.

A store like this may be “big” with lots of selection, but you still have to follow the law if you want to legally purchase a firearm. The store won’t sell you a firearm unless you pass a Federal background check and follow any other State regs.

Well, I figured that the store wouldn’t sell things illegally. Just seems very different, culture-wise.
